The Moment

The moment is a powerful place. It can fly by in an instant when we retreat into ourselves. It also sails by when we are amidst laughter with those we love.

We recall moments in our past with joy or sadness; nostalgia is a powerful drug–as is self pity. Habits formed outside of the Present; escapism or delusion? One cannot fairly recall the past moments without a taste of romance or despair, nor can we change them.

We can also use the moment to look forward ad infinitum. Obsessional, anxious analysis of moments to come. We can also play Pollyanna’s glad game and see nothing but sunshine. We might as well put our heads in the sand if divorced from objectivity.

Past moments are gone and the future is a dream away. The real power is in the present, mindful, present. Here lives God in Today– transformative truth. We look at how the past shaped us Today, who we are now in beautiful and terrible nakedness.

How can one hope in tomorrow without living today. Each day that passes, each moment wasted becomes regret. We grieve what could have been, victim of circumstance? Was it not you in the moment, dreaming it away?

We can chose the pain of growth or the pain of regret, today, now, in this moment. Shall we rise and live anew? Shall we look to a Power that lifts our head from the self? It is a simple prayer to “I AM”, “I do”.
